Welcome to the second largest country in the world! Canada is the home of fascinating, endless and undisturbed wilderness filled with waterfalls, rocky mountains, parks, forests, rivers, glaciers and the Northern Lights. It's an athlete's paradise where skiing, snowboarding, cycling, swimming, sailing, kite surfing, hockey, baseball, soccer and more flourish. Dig into cosmopolitan cities and quaint villages where you can taste a scrumptious smoked meat sandwich, Montreal bagels and the home of the Monte Cristo. Don't forget to check out Niagara falls!
It's no secret that we love Vancouver, after all, it is where we call home! Vancouver is really outstanding. Few cities in the world are so privileged with everything a city needs and the proximity of virgin and rugged nature. This combination gives you so many options whether you like hiking, if you are a foodie, if you love museums or getting on a bike is your thing. You'll have no trouble finding things to do in Vancouver.
As we love sports and keeping active when traveling we recommend you to visit the seawall that goes along the shore, you can practice many activities or just walk along. We also love going to the parks with our bikes, our favorite in Vancouver is Stanley Park because it offers diverse landscapes during your ride, ocean, forests and the city to enjoy from your bike.
Another must thing to do in Vancouver is to visit Granville Island, where you'll find a delicious food market, many restaurants, arts and crafts shops and theaters to choose, everything while enjoying spectacular views of the city. You can get there either by ferry or car.
Vancouver has many restaurant options to have delicious food, if you are looking for international flavors our favorites are Ask for Luigi (305, Alexander St.), which serves outstanding pasta dishes and it is probably the best restaurant in Vancouver. For an Asian option try Miku (70-200 Granville St.), you can have delicious sushi enjoying fantastic views of the city from your table. As connoisseurs of Mexican food we would recommend you to visit La Taqueria Pinche Taco Shop to have an authentic taco experience.
If you are in the mood of having more Canadian food our favorite restaurant is Hawksworth Restaurant (801 West Georgia St.) at the Rosewood Hotel Georgia. An elegant set with contemporary dishes using local ingredients.
Vancouver has become famous for skiing, and not just because they hosted the winter Olympics here in 2010. Whistler has won well deserved ski awards for the last few years running. It's only about a 90 minute drive from downtown and if that's too far, try something closer from any of these three mountains that can be seen on the north shore of the city: Cypress Mountain, Seymour Mountain and Grouse Mountain. If you're more of a summer visitor, any of these places has world class mountain biking and gorgeous hiking.
If you are looking for more outdoor activities, hiking is one of the best options. There are all kinds of trails, from some that feel like a stroll to more demanding walks. Some of our favorites are: the Dog Mountain Trail at the Seymour Mountain or the daring Stawamus "The Chief", in Squamish.
Where to stay in Vancouver?
Vancouver is home to some of the best hotels in Canada. You can try to find a room when you arrive in the city but you will probably find better deals if you look where to stay ahead of time and search for online hotel reservations Vancouver. Online hotel reservations are a great way to find the best deals in the City.
